It is one of these pieces I started one day, left aside for a long time, and finally completed…
I laid the green marble border on April 26, 2014.
Added more stone tesserae, black granite, in July 2014.
And did not touch it for 11 month for I had to work on other projects, among them where a number of workshops for adults and children I animated locally.
I eventually went back to work in June 2015…
Lots of reds, oranges, and yellows make for a very bright mosaic !
Red Scarf is mostly glass, with a little ceramic, green marble and black granite.
Details of the eye. You can see the differences of thickness of glass and stone.
This is why you use the reverse method.
Glass tesserae generally have the same back and front colour.
This is not true of mirror and stone.
The grey granite sticking out of the brighter glass tiles is actually shiny black on its front side.
Red Scarf was completed and mounted in a steel frame in July 2015.
Its weight is 68 lb or 31 kg.
It is the longest and brightest piece I have produced so far.
Sold August 9, 2020 at my Show The Eyes are the mirror of the Soul” at Mural City Coffee in Dothan, Alabama.
