So far, I had only made women’s eyes mosaics, I needed to figure out if I could do a man ! In August 2013 I designed the model,
and started to lay the first tesserae in September. Once again, I was using the reverse method.
You can see that the mosaic at this stage it he mirror image of the model.
Little by little, Granite, Ceramics, Marbles and Travertines become a face !
Until all tesserae are in place, the day before I fly home to France to visit my family and deliver Ubi tu Gaius !
The tiles of different thickness – Stones generally are 3/8″, ceramics 3/16 to 1/4″ and glasses 1/8″ – allow for a very special lighting of the piece.
Back to Alabama after the Holidays, I flipped the piece during the last week of January.
It is presently looking at you from the wall of the Japanese house !
